Based on the classic rock opera by Pete Townshend, Tony Award-winning Tommy tells the electrifying tale of a young boy's journey from pain to triumph.

"An entertainment juggernaut that lifts the audience right out of its seats. Tommy is the first musical in years to feel completely alive in its own moment". - The New York Times.

"Tommy rocks . . ." - Boston Globe.

Synopsis

After witnessing his father murder his mother's lover, young Tommy becomes psychosomatically deaf, dumb and blind. This way he stays all the way through to adulthood regardless of what his mother tries to get him cured. As his life meanders on in post World War II England, he suffers abuse from relatives and neighbours. Tommy's life is saved however, when he finds an old pinball machine and begins to play it. When he turns out to be a natural born wizard on the pinball table it not only leads him to a cure but also causes a religious following to spring up around him.

About Tommy

Tommy is based, in part, by the spiritual teachings of Indian mystic, Meher Baba, of whom Townshend became a devotee. "Amazing Journey," "Pinball Wizard," and the finale "See Me, Feel Me," are the notable songs.

• I n 1974, Tommy began shooting as a feature film with a Townshend Oscar nominated score.

• In 1993, Tommy opened on Broadway to become an eventual Tony winner.
