Bedding the Highlander audiobook cover

In 17th-century Scotland, on the eve of the union of the crowns, King James VI has ordered his highland dukes to end clan rivalries through marriage. Acting on royal command, the Duke of Glencoe decrees that Katherine Killin, daughter of his most turbulent laird, will marry Ben Rannoch — her clan's mortal enemy. Kirk Rannoch, Ben's brother, is sent into hostile territory to collect the bride.

What he finds is not the biddable maid he expected. Katherine is fiery, headstrong, and intent on sabotaging a wedding she never wanted. What neither of them expected was each other. The story that follows is set against the rugged landscape of Kinloch Rannoch, the ancestral territory of Sabrina York's own family — a detail that gives the novel its particular sense of place.

Bedding the Highlander is part of the BookShots Flames imprint — James Patterson's romance line within the BookShots series — with a foreword by Patterson.

The narration

Euan Morton narrates the full audiobook as a solo narrator, voicing both Kirk and Katherine as well as the supporting cast. The assignment places specific demands on any narrator: a Scottish historical romance with a predominantly male protagonist, a feisty heroine, and a broad range of secondary characters. Morton's own Scottish background — he was born in Falkirk — is an obvious asset here, lending Kirk's voice an authenticity that would be harder to achieve otherwise.

The performance drew direct comment from listeners, with Audible reviewers singling out Morton's work by name rather than in passing. One reviewer wrote that they "fell in love with Euan Morton's voice and the way he read Kirk", noting his accent and his handling of both the male and female characters. Another expressed a wish that he would narrate more romance titles — a response that speaks to something the performance achieves beyond basic competence.
