Evil is an American supernatural drama television series created by Robert and Michelle King that premiered on September 26, 2019, on CBS, before moving to Paramount+ for subsequent seasons. The series follows a forensic psychologist, a priest-in-training, and a tech contractor as they investigate possible supernatural incidents for the Catholic Church. Euan Morton provides the voice for George, a recurring demonic character who appears in Kristen Bouchard's dreams and nightmares.

ABOUT EVIL

The series centers on Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), a forensic psychologist who teams up with David Acosta (Mike Colter), a Catholic priest-in-training, and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), a technology contractor. Together, they investigate supposedly supernatural occurrences, including possible demonic possessions, miracles, and other unexplained phenomena on behalf of the Catholic Church.

Throughout the series, the team confronts various manifestations of evil while grappling with their own personal demons and beliefs. The show explores the tension between scientific explanation and supernatural faith, often leaving viewers to decide for themselves which interpretation to believe. The series is known for its blend of horror, psychological thriller elements, and occasional dark humor.

Evil initially premiered on CBS for its first season before moving to the streaming service Paramount+ for its second, third and fourth seasons. The series has received critical acclaim for its performances, writing, direction, and its thoughtful approach to weighty philosophical and theological themes. The fourth and final season of the series premiered in May 2024, with the series finale airing on August 22, 2024.

EUAN MORTON AS GEORGE

In Evil, Euan Morton provides the voice for the character of George, a demonic entity who frequently appears in Kristen Bouchard's dreams and nightmares. While the physical performance of George is handled by actor Marti Matulis in a prosthetic costume, Morton's distinctive voice brings the character to life with a chilling yet conversational quality that heightens the unsettling nature of the character.

George is portrayed as an emaciated, tall humanoid creature with striking yellow-green sunken eyes and leathery black skin. Despite his terrifying appearance, he is surprisingly articulate and down-to-earth in his interactions. He often uses a casual, almost friendly manner of speaking that creates a dissonance with his threatening presence and actions. This juxtaposition between George's horrifying appearance and his conversational tone, brought to life by Morton's voice performance, makes the character particularly memorable and disturbing.

Throughout the series, George serves as a manifestation of Kristen's inner demons and fears. He appears in her most vulnerable moments, taunting her and her four young daughters. He can move at great speed and defy gravity by crawling on ceilings, adding to his supernatural presence. Morton's voice work for this character has been an important element in establishing George as one of the most memorable supernatural entities in the show.

"For a demonic entity, George is surprisingly down to earth and looped in to recent events."

CHARACTER SIGNIFICANCE

George represents a key element in the show's exploration of the line between psychological manifestations and supernatural entities. As a frequent visitor in Kristen's dreams, he embodies her internal struggles, guilt, and fears. The ambiguity of whether George is truly a demonic entity or a creation of Kristen's troubled mind is central to the show's ongoing tension between scientific explanation and supernatural belief.

What makes George particularly effective as a character is the combination of Marti Matulis's physical performance and Euan Morton's voice work. Morton brings a distinctive quality to George that makes him more than just a monster – his casual, sometimes witty delivery contrasts with the character's horrifying appearance, creating a deeply unsettling effect.

While George's appearances are intermittent throughout the series, his impact on the narrative and on Kristen's character development is significant. He serves as a constant reminder of the darkness that may exist both in the world and within ourselves, a theme that runs throughout Evil.
